How to create a mood board for your business

A good place to start with your branding is to create a Mood Board.
A mood board is a collection of images and graphics which inspire the mood you want your brand to create for your audience.
Once complete your mood board will help you to create your brand. It will also give you a visual to refer to as you create the imagry and graphics for your content and resources. 

WHERE TO FIND YOUR INSPIRATION

Inspiration isn't the same as copying. You may have a brand that speaks to you that you think would also speak to your audience. Be sure to complete the Ideal Customer Avatar worksheet to determine what it is your ideal customer is attracted to.

#1: Create a Pinterest Board where you can collect images for your mood board.


PIN the following which your ideal customer would be attracted to.

Think of things that inspire your customer: how do you want your brand to make them feel.
For me I want me customers to feel:  inspired, organized, focused, excited
  • Images that inspire
  • Colors that inspire
  • Fonts – I suggest pinning 2 styles. A script OR serif and a sans serif
  • Lifestyle
  • Quotes

#2: Review the Pinterest Board and eliminate

TIP:  Having too many pins will get overwhelming. Though you can keep your Pinterest Board for inspiration. You will need to be more specific about what elements you want to include in your mood board.

#3: Download & Save to your computer

  • 8 favourite photos
  • 2 favorite fonts (or a font pairing)
  • 1 favourite quote



#4: Upload these images to your Canva account.

If you don’t have a Canva account you can open one for free! Canva is a wonderful tool for creating graphics, especially for social media. It can also be used to create your TPT resources.

Mood Board Creation Time!

Type "Mood Board" into the templates search bar and Canva will give you several options to choose from.

#5: Place images into the mood board template.

Once you are done you can generate a color palette from your mood board! Amazing, right?
Click on the color squares and on the left you will see color palettes pop up. If you wish to do so, choose an array from your photo colors.
Ta-da! You've got a mood board and perhaps even the color scheme for your brand!
